Student Night 2010 Information

We would like to share with you our plans for the 4th Annual Institute of Management Accountants Student night coming up soon.   This evening will provide college students the opportunity to meet and network with IMA members, learn more about our organization, our chapter's scholarship program, the CMA exam, and hear a good speaker at no cost to them.

The event will be held Tuesday, February 16th at Masterson’s Restaurant on S. 3rd Street in Louisville.   (Please note that the location has changed from Kingfish as in prior years).   Registration begins at 5:30 pm with dinner served around 5:45 pm.   Students will be receiving a free meal as guests of the IMA with other attendees' meals costing $20.   We will be discussing and sharing IMA membership, CMA exam (current program and the new changes), Gleim CMA review course, and IMA chapter scholarship information.  As you may know, the format of the CMA exam will be changing from 4 parts to 2 with a shift in content.   We will be discussing the changes and the process for people who have begun the certification process or will in the near future.   Also, door prizes will be given for students including parts of the Gleim CMA review course, and the book Power Excel, written  by Bill Jelen – “Mr. Excel”.  Another copy of the book Power Excel will be a door prize for non-student attendees.  A 50/50 $1 raffle will be held with one-half of the winnings shared between the lucky recipient and the scholarship fund.   Our planned topic is “Unintended Consequences” by Fritz Kramer with First Kentucky Securities (an Investment Banking, Securities, and Brokerage Company).

We request that everyone register by Thursday, February 11th or the morning of Friday, February 12th at the latest.  For reservations, please email Barbara Burridge at Barbara.burridge@roberthalf.com or you may call her at 502-394-0300.  When registering please provide your name preference for a nametag and which university you attend.  At this point we aren't limiting the number of students within reasonable limits (we obviously can't handle 50 students per university).

Below is a tentative schedule for the night.

Registration/social time                         5:30-5:45
Dinner & IMA, CMA information              5:45-7:00
Seminar                                               7:00-7:50
Door prizes and raffle                            7:50-8:00

We would also appreciate your help in sharing information about our Scholarship fund.   Our local IMA chapter awards yearly a $500 scholarship to a student majoring in Accounting or Finance in the Louisville Area.  Applicants may be enrolled in graduate, undergraduate or certificate programs.  More information will be available at Student Night and soon on our website:   www.louisville.imanet.org.    The application will be due in March.   Please pass this on to students who may qualify and are interested.

On Thursday, April  22nd, Mr. Excel will be returning to Louisville for another full-day seminar at Mastersons.  Cost will be $100 for IMA members and $125 for non-members.   Also, he will be holding similar IMA seminars on Wednesday, April 21st in Indianapolis, and on Friday, April 23rd in Cincinnati.   Topics will be slightly different at each side with reduced prices for attending multiple workshops.   Please watch our newsletter and check our website listed above for more information in the near future.

We would appreciate you sharing all of this information with your students and student organizations at the university.   Please feel free to contact me if you would like someone from the board to visit a classroom to discuss IMA and the CMA exam at another time.   We welcome any comments you may have on the upcoming event and ways to outreach with students.   I look forward to working with you to promote the IMA there and at this upcoming event.

Sincerely,

Jean Isaacs, CMA
